Matt Bar had the great honor of being asked to give an ELI Talk on a topic of his choosing last January and was thrilled to speak about Hip Hop and Judaism: Comparing Oral Traditions. Using hip hop as a lens to understand Jewish oral tradition, demonstrating that each functions as a type of education and tradition, calling on voices of the past to discuss issues in the present, Bible Raps believes that the Jewish oral tradition is alive and well, and that rap and hip hop are an important way to engage young people in ancient Talmudic debates. Use this talk, along with the accompanying Guide in your teen classroom or college Hillel group for a lively discussion.
